Practicing

You must have a tuned, functioning piano or a fullsize electronic keyboard, with weighted keys, in the home for daily practice!

All students are expected to practice a minimum of 5 days a week and to arrive at their lessons prepared. All students will sign a practice agreement. Parents are responsible for establishing a regular practice time, and encouraging and gently reminding the student to practice daily. Parents will be informed if the student is not prepared for their lessons or is not making adequate progress for his or her ability and level of study. Students who are consistently unprepared will be dropped from study.

Lessons

Weekly lessons are scheduled at a specific time for each student. Students are expected to arrive at their scheduled lesson on time and with all of their lesson materials. A small tote bag is recommended to keep lesson materials together.

If you expect to be more than 5-10 minutes late, please call me. To keep my lesson schedule on time, please notify me at the beginning of the lesson if you need to discuss an issue with me or call me at your convenience.

Recitals

Recitals are an important component of musical study. In addition to the joy of sharing music with others, they can be inspiring for students who are having difficulties. They help foster the poise and self-confidence needed later in life when we must present ourselves to others in public.

All students are encouraged to participate in the recitals, either as performers or as the audience. I schedule a “holiday” recital in early December. The annual Spring Recital is usually held in May or June. A nominal $5 fee is collected for each student at each recital to cover the recital expenses.

Lesson Books and Materials

For your convenience, I purchase all lesson materials for each student.  A non-refundable registration fee of $10 plus a yearly materials deposit of $40 is collected from each student to cover the cost of purchasing lesson books and materials throughout the year. The cost books and materials purchased for each student will be deducted from this deposit. You will be notified when books and materials exceed this amount and an additional deposit will be due.

Fees

Lesson fees are due and payable at the first lesson of each month for all the scheduled weekly lessons in each month. Contact me for information on my lesson fee schedule.

Cancellations

Cancellations of lessons greatly diminish the student’s progress and commitment. You have also reserved a space and time in my teaching studio, which I cannot fill with another paid lesson. Therefore, you are obligated to pay for all the cancelled lessons including school vacations, family vacations, doctor’s appointments and all other activities that may conflict with your regularly scheduled lesson. NO MONETARY CREDIT OR REFUNDS ARE GIVEN FOR ANY CANCELLED LESSONS except teacher cancellations.

Students are required to take lessons every week during the school year from August 29, 2011 through June 1, 2012, excepting the following scheduled vacations.

Holidays

Winter Break December 23 - January 6, 2012
Spring Break TBA

Make-Up Lessons

You are eligible for a make-up lesson only if a lesson is cancelled due to illness or extreme emergency. You must call me before the scheduled lesson time to be eligible for a make-up lesson. No make-up lessons are given for conflicts with sport activites. Make-up lessons are scheduled on selected Saturdays throughout the year. These make-up lessons are in addition to the regularly scheduled lessons during the week of the makeup lesson.
